Good. Upon reading all the excellent reviews for the Lifetek New Yorker, I was expecting an umbrella to end ALL umbrellas. When it arrived (prime 2 day shipping), I was more than surprised to find just another mediocre quality (made in china), run-of-the-mill umbrella. The quality is in no way poor, but it is also in no way impeccable. It functions-okay. The canvas of the umbrella is connected to each of the arms with maybe 8-10 wraps of your average sewing thread. The canvas itself seems decent enough, it keeps me dry. All in all, I keep saying to myself “it’s okay”. I really was expecting something special after reading ALL of the amazing reviews, and wanted to love it and leave my own glowing 5-star review-I just can’t. I need to be honest like I am with all of my product reviews, and this umbrella is just “okay”. The customer service at Lifetek is great, they have been wonderful through this whole buying process (which is why I gave it 3 stars rather than 2). I will be ordering their larger Hillcrest model to see if it’s quality is any better than the New Yorker. I hope it is, because I DO want to love this company and their products. Hope this review was helpful Read more

I’ve been walking to work for over 25 years. No matter what the weather is, I’m always on foot. During rainy days I absolutely depend on a quality umbrella, especially if it’s windy. I used a Hammacher Schlemmer “wind defying umbrella” for most of those 25 years and it served me well. But as with all things, it finally bit the dust. Was going to purchase that again from them, but thought I would browse Amazon to see if there was anything comparable. Read good reviews of this umbrella by LifeTek, and with the great price, I decided to go for it. Coming up on the one year point and will say I’m very happy with the performance. I’ve used this in 30-40mph winds and it’s held on strong. At first glance, you can see it’s well made. In fact, it is quite heavy and sturdy – that’s not a bad thing. To truly make it through high winds, those light-weight, flimsy umbrellas have no chance. So you need it to be sturdy. But it’s not so heavy that it strains your arm. It has a push-button mechanism to open and it opens rather gently and smooth. Some umbrellas open abruptly and you wonder how many times it can handle that kind of abuse. The tie-around band to secure it is velcro – probably wouldn’t be my first choice (buttons last longer) but it also comes with a sheath that fits over the umbrella snugly to keep it under control when not in use. In addition to being sturdy, you need decent coverage when walking distances in the rain. This product gives you more than enough coverage, especially if you wear a backpack. With a slight tilt backward, you can protect your backpack and still keep the rain off you. One thing (and this is true of all large umbrellas), you have to be mindful of other pedestrians. My experience is people usually get out of my way when they see a large umbrella. So, yeah, I like the intimidation factor. (haha) What really impressed me with this company was my first umbrella arrived with a slight gap in the ring near the tip. It didn’t affect the operation of the umbrella and I was just going to live with it, but decided to ask the company about it. I was informed that it was in fact not normal and they immediately shipped me a replacement. From the things I’ve read about LifeTek, they seem to stand by their products and put thought into the quality of what they sell. Read more

Overall very pleased with this umbrella. It’s solid, sturdy, and though I’ve only had to use it a couple times, seems to function really smoothly. The auto-open feature is smooth and not jerky at all, and it pulls back down without too much effort (though you will certainly need both hands to accomplish). The wide span is perfect for me and keeps both me and my briefcase dry during rainy morning commutes (I hated the experience of using a 40-44″ span umbrella and always ending up with the cuffs of my pants and shoes wet from the rain). Very happy with the umbrella. The only reason for the one star deduction is that given the solid construction and wide span, the umbrella sometimes tried to run away during strong wind gusts (though has never even come close to inverting). The wild temperament during wind gusts is the only minor negative I’ve found. Overall, very happy with purchase. Read more

I saw many good reviews and bought this one few months ago… this worked as expected for 2 months during summer during which I only used it couple times… It is made of cheap plastic and it broke recently.. with normal usage. It’s not even windy… save some money and don’t buy this trash.. Read more

Bought this umbrella in March of 2017, and its been a great umbrella until now. Unfortunately the metal collapsed during a rainstorm we are having. I duct taped it together but looks like while the umbrella structure itself can be supported against winds, none of that matters if the umbrella pole itself cannot withstand the pressure. That being said, its been a wonderful umbrella for the last year, looks like its time to buy a new one that will hopefully last me longer. Read more

I got this umbrella because my smaller umbrella could not withstand the wind walking in the parking lot to work. I decided I wanted to upgrade to a bigger umbrella, and since I like to golf, I looked at golf umbrellas and decided on this. Definitely hit two birds with one umbrella (joking) since it is now a perfect work umbrella when it rains, and a fantastic golf umbrella even though I am not a big fan of golfing in the rain. It is great against winds, although I have not tested it against anything wild. Read more
