This umbrella is slim and fairly compact, but naturally it does not give very much coverage. It only gives enough for one person, which is okay. On the other hand, I liked the fact that it opened quickly. This was an issue with my previous Totes titanium umbrella (which was great, but was stolen) because there was a noticeable delay when the auto open button was pressed. Upon pressing the button again it makes it “close,” but you still need to physically compress the spring-powered shaft in order to “reload” it. I was however dissatisfied with the fact that it flipped inside-out the second time I used it. I live in Hawaii, and there are a lot of trade winds at times (I work on the Windward side too, which is pretty much the windiest side of the island of Oahu). For a product that boasts effectiveness in wind, I kind of expected more from it. My previous Totes umbrella was larger and never once flipped inside out even in considerably heavier winds. The main issue of concern for me is the titanium arms are definitely a safety concern because they have razor-sharp edges. DO NOT knick them or touch the corners of the arms when closed because you WILL bleed. This is akin to 8 switchblades disguised as an umbrella, and I would not feel comfortable carrying this item through customs at the airport. Luckily, the ends of the arms are capped with a ball. There is also an elastic cord at the base of the handle with a similar matching ball attached in order to complete the aesthetic. In conclusion, It would be nice if this product did as advertised in heavy winds, but it doesn’t. I will have to give this product a star just for working. It does open and close with it’s auto-open/close feature, but I cannot in good conscience recommend this product due to the safety concerns brought on by the sharpness of the titanium arms. Not the advertised size. The multi-colored one is not a 43 inch canopy. It is closer to 37 inches. It is smaller than the other TOTES TITAN umbrellas. So, if you are looking for something for an adult, suggest you order a different color. This one is fine for maybe a teenager or someone with small body frame. (If I were to use, my back would get wet). Read more

This umbrella broke on its third use while walking across 30th Street Bridge in Philadelphia. Wind conditions were about 15 mph and it blew my umbrella inside out and broke it. Very disappointed since I bought this one since it was advertised as withstanding winds up to 70 mph. Read more

This umbrella was supposed to be 43 inches. Even the packaging says 43 inches. I already had one that actually is the correct size and this was a gift for my daughter. When it arrived it is only 34 inches. False advertising even on the package. Read more

I’ve had Tote umbrellas for years, and this is the first one I’ve ever had trouble with. The auto open works fine, as does the auto close to release it, but getting the umbrella to actually click shut again after use so you can roll it up and Velcro it again can be quite a project. Sometimes it ‘catches’ with no problem, but more often than not it takes several tries to get it to actually click shut, which is painful for my hands. It’s only the last couple of weeks that I’ve had an opportunity to use it, and I’m now past the return window or I would send it back. I’m really very unhappy with this umbrella. Read more

This windproof umbrella really works! It was purchased for a disabled person who uses a motorized scooter. He needed an umbrella he could carry on his handle bars that would open & close easily and not invert in heavy rain & wind. He also needed an umbrella he could handle with one hand & light enough to hold while driving his scooter. The Totes 70MPH Auto Open Close umbrella fit all requirements. It is sturdy & better made than other brands of umbrellas he had in the past. He has had the umbrella for about a month. With all the rain & wind storms we’ve had this spring, he has used the umbrella several times. He reports it worked “super & is the best umbrella he has ever had.” If time proves this umbrella continues to hold up in wind, would definitely buy again. Read more

This was a replacement for another larger Titan (more expensive) whose inner spring sprang out! Impossible to fix without some propriety spring loading device. Like so many products, manufacturers are cutting corners whenever they can. After all, they’ve got to maintain their bottom lines without purchase-killing, steep price increases. I bought these because of promised sturdiness in stiff winds and rain. But the Totes name is not living up to its former reputation. While I appreciate free ($5) replacement, the hassle is simply not worth it. Especially since I live in Ethiopia and must wait until I get home to process the replacement. I pay more expecting more. But this is not the first replacement for a Totes umbrella under 2 months old. I gave them chances, but they’re relying on a name, rather than a continuing integrity, to sell a product. Read more

I ordered the black Totes auto open close umbrella from Amazon (not third party seller) and it works very well. The metal ribs are more sturdy than a normal umbrella but the joints broke on mine after a few months of occasional use and the auto open and close feature is very convenient. The umbrella easily fits into my laptop bag but it is a little heavier than a standard umbrella. The umbrella is covered by a Totes warranty but I have to pay the cost to ship the umbrella to Totes. As I write this review, it costs $7.35 for a flat rate envelope from the USPS so that would be an ok option. Read more
